Default 1999 xj check engine light issues

my check engine light came on the other day. so tonight i hooked the jeep up my scanner and the sanner did not find any problems and it said the check engine light is not even on so idk what to do. my guess is either there is something wrong with the scanner, or there is something wrong with the check engine light.

anybody else ever have this problem?

im pretty new to the jeep world (or any cars in general for that matter) so i dont know alot about anything so any help or tips would be appreciated

Take your Jeep to an Autozone or some place that will check codes for you. If they come up with codes, then you have a code reader issue.

did it come on and stay on? if its off you will have a pending code and its stored. If the light is on and stays on you will have a hard code readable by a generic scann tool. If you only have a off the shelf "plug in and read code reader" unable to retrive global obd2 pending codes youll never see it.
