I have a 1999 cherokee sport, the front wheel bearings need replacing, but does anyone know whether they're old style and can be packed out or if they're new and need the entire bearing replaced? Gotta know before it heads to the mechanic

 

Gotta replace the whole wheels bearing assembly. Seen them anywere from 80 to 160 a set.

Have to replace the whole unit. It's one of the easier jobs on the XJ to do. Hardest part is getting the 3 bolts that hold the wheel bearing unit on and actually getting the wheel bearing off. You might want to try the install yourself before taking it to a mechanic. There are several write ups on how to do it.
