Hi, I have 1999 jeep cherokee xj 2.5td i picked up a couple weeks ago and worked good that day and 2 days after it wouldnt start, the battery was low so i bought a brand new battery and it started, but a few days later it wont start again and the battery is showing 11.44V i checked the alternator was charging and that seems fine and no parasitic draw, what can it be as it turns over but the battery voltage drops really low, can a bad starter motor do that even with it turning or can an alternator be showing its charging but still be faulty, its quite stressfull as i bought the jeep to replace my broken E36 and now left with no car yet again

 

It could definitely be a bad starter. If your battery is new and still tests good, do a voltage drop test at the starter while cranking to confirm it's not a bad cable issue, then replace the faulty parts as necessary.

 

Ok thank you, ive only been driving a year so this is my first ever jeep xj which all honestly is one off the best looking cars, so im getting to learn about it but the only issues were an oil leak at the oil catch can which i will be replacing and the battery drain issue which i determined is not the alternator as it charges and the battery shows no battery draw either so i kinda thought it may be the starter

Your brand new battery reading 11.4V is an other issue than your starter...
