Default 1999 Jeep Cherokee Power Windows and Locks

Hi. I was wondering if anyone cam help me out. I apologize if there is a thread on it. I did not see one. I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee that I recently purchased. The passenger side windows, both front and back do not work. The power locks do work. The lights for the windows in the switch do not light up. The front passenger door lock switch does light up and works as it should. I can not get either passenger side window to work.I checked fuses and silver"circut breakers" , still no luck. I purchased a new front passenger door switch, that did not work. Does the door lock and the door window share the same power source, or does the lock and the window have their own individual power source? I do have a FSM with the wiring diagrams, but they have not been much help. I hope someone can help me out. Thank you for your time.

Oh, I also tried the jumper on the driver side near the hood latch release. It did not work for me.

Does the rear driver side window work from its own switch?

Look in the FSM at page 8W-60-2 and 8W-60-4 for the power windows. Main power comes from the junction block on CB28 (25a) and goes to the driver side switch.

Then page 8W-61-2 for the power door locks. Main power also comes from the jb on CB 28 and goes to the passenger side lock switch. Note fuse #15 in the JB also provides power specifically for the locks.

Section 8S covers the power window system and cover detailed diagnostics.

I have a similar problem but it’s intermittent so never dig into it. My understanding is that they made the wiring harness between the door and the frame a bit short and the wires break. Could be a broken wire inside good insulation.

No. The rear passenger window does not work from it's own switch.

Saudade, Does the window switch have it's own power, or does it share power from the power lock? If it does have it's own power, which wire, or what color is the hot wire? Thank you for your time.

Follow-up from PM.

Section 8W-80 has the connector pinout. 8W-80-52 shows both C1 and C2.. The cavities are labeled with the circuit number/wire gauge/color, and what it's connected to .You can then go to the specific system and look for the connector symbol and then find out where the circuit goes from there.

Section 8W-90 lists connector/ground locations, in case one trace leads to another connector and you need to find it.

Lastly, section 8W-90 shows splices. Sometimes, you have to cut the harness open to inspect/repair a slice. These are either crimp or soldered connections. The can get corroded.

My problem is the opposite. My windows all work but my door locks don't. Not even a click. Front door switches are new.

Never ever ever take it for granted the vehicles electrical grounds are "good" especially on an XJ or MJ.

This is a known problem on the xj, open the drivers door wiring boot that goes to the frame of the car and the bushing that supposed to protect the wires as they enter the door gets dislodged, chafing and even severing the wires within

I opened up this boot and discovered 3-4 broken wires and 3-4 more that are cracked. What is the solution here?

Solution? Splice the wires back together.
