1999 XJ , started last spring. It will run for about a second with a quick spray of starter fluid, then shuts off. No fuel at Schrader valve. Fuel gauge reads empty but tank is full. I am thinking fuel pump, but would like to be sure before dropping the fuel tank, etc... Any suggestions would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, John.
First thing I'd do is jumper power to the fuel pump and see what it does. It might be a bad fuel pump relay, or several other things. While you're at it, start spraying the tank straps with a good penetrating oil. (No, not WD-40, I said a good penetrating oil.) If you do have to replace the pump, you'll be glad you got started on that rust.
