Question 1999 cherokee sport 4x4 conversion how to?

Hey I have a jeep that looks like itss ready to get dirty but I do not have 4x4. I have taken it offroading plenty but she tends to get stuck in mud so i wanted to give her a four wheel drive for christmas.

"a np231 transfer case, linkage, and driveshaft" is all I have found on the topic and I dont know what linkage i need or even what that specifically is. What all do I need in order to convert my jeep into a 4x4 JEEP

it would cost more to put 4wd in a cherokee then it would actually be worth. better off having a jeep with 4x4 allready

I have to agree, detail the one you got out, sell it and buy a four wheel drive that Jeeps already done the engineering on. A conversion sounds like it would be more trouble than its worth. Unless you like>

i duuno folks, the OP has an 01 so it might be a worthwhile project.

Do a search for CONVERT or CONVERSION and you'll find quite a bit of info.

Well i found a transmission for a 4x4 automatic on craigslist for 200$ and I was thinking about buyin a donor jeep. If i was to buy a donor jeep do you know if i would need to get one that matches the year of mine? its a 1999 and if it doesnt need to match the year how old could i go before it would be implausible? I appreciate the feedback.

Do you already have a locking rear diff? If not, you may be surprised at the increase in 2WD traction with a locker.
