1997 XJ 2.5TD Fuel Injection Pump, advice required please...

1997 XJ 2.5TD Fuel Injection Pump, advice required please...
Following on from my thread here...
I now have more info, the problem arose again today, it's still happening now, it has given me chance to try a few things...
I am getting fuel to the filter...
I am getting fuel from the filter and it is arriving at the pump...
Nothing from the pump or at the injectors though...
This suggests to me that the pump is not right, but, I notice a couple of electrical control units, or sensors on the side of it, what are these please?
Do they control the pump and could they be faulty?
