1997 jeep grand cherokee dies for a few hours
It'll start and run for about an hour maybe 1 1/2. Then it'll die with a clunk glug sound in the engine and it won't start for several hours where do I start. And keep in mind I have tools but they are basic tools no special testers or nothin just wrenches and rachets but ill get it done this is my wife's cherokee so no 4x4 just straight 6

Sounds like a (not typical but) heat-related issue, since it starts fine and then runs for an hour Guess will need a bit more info to get started.
Willl it just die, or are there some 'symptoms' prior to this, like rough idle, backfiring, stalling, issues while taking corners, acceleratating? Any voltage drop leading to the shut-off? overheating? Any knocking?

I just went out there turned the key she fired right up wtf I had the same problem with mine not starting it was cps but I don't think this is the same I'm leaning towards catilitic converter clog, fuel filter clog. My buddy says its the computer but he always says that we dropped 1800.00 in parts on my jeep for it to turn out to be a cps!!!! I got damn near a new motor now but it was a costly lesson I don't want to pay again that's why I came here first and the gauges all work fine it isn't showing hot when it dies its weird and random sometimes an hour sometimes nothing buts when it dies its always in traffic

The #1 cause of thermal (heat related) electrical failure on the 4.0 is the crankshaft position sensor.
The #2 cause is the ignition coil.
Both can be tested, but testing is not always conclusive on the crank sensor.
Clogged cat or clogged fuel filter would not allow the engine to run well for an hour or longer.
