i have 96 sport xj it usaully runs fine unless im turning it on or off several times or stuck in traffic for example when i leave work at 5 it takes me about 30 minutes to get home in traffic it runs fine but some times i stop at the store and when i turn it back on it starts to miss fire and really bogs down sometimes i can rev it up in gear it run it out but others it just dies and i have to wait an hour or so stranded then she starts back up like nothing happened. i also have a cracked exhaust manifold could this lead to the problem?
could be a heat soak, your injectors may be getting hot. causes a pretty good misfire.
mine ran really ****ty when it was hot (maybe your cracked manifold is causing even more heat on one of your injectors)
I put the insulator things around the injectors (the dealer sells them) and my problem went away.
hope this helps

Manifold ASAP.. If that doesn't fix it then look at any of the following...
-TPS
-IAC valve
-o2's
-fuel pump/filter assembly
If a any point the vehicle pops (kinda backfires) from manifold, hesitates or starts sucking air hard (usually more noticeable at idle) then fuel delivery is suspect. For kicks, it's easy and worth it IMHO to drop the gas tank and take a look. I believe your pump and filter assembly is in the tank like my 99's, so you can kill two birds with one stone by inspecting condition of pump/filter and to see if there is and swag in the gas tank like dirt, leaves or whatever (there was in mine...) good luck!
