Researching the XJ engines, I noticed that in 96 the web-added block came out with the lighter pistons and modified cam that boosted low end torque. I presume this was part of the mfg plant re-tool. But is there any way to tell by engine number if what I have is pre-change, or post change engine? The info on line talks about the change happening in 1996. But was that for the entire 96 model run and beyond? Sounds like it was a mid year change. My engine does have the piston size letter markings we discussed earlier. I suspect it was a pre-change. Any hard info on this?
