Wondering if there is a way to disable the auto locking feature on my 96 XJ. I auto locks as soon as I start the vehicle and if I get out while vehicle is running and I shut the door it re-locks.

Are you sure that is factory and not some screwed up wiring?

I'm unsure if it's an electrical problem as I just bought it this weekend. I bought it from the original owner and he said it's done it since day one. If I can't figure it out I'm either going to hide a switch under the vehicle or disable the back hatch.

Don't think this is a normal standard feature....locking as soon as you start, and you can't leave your car while its running because it locks you out.....sounds like a short/electrical malfunction.
Do you have a remote lock/unlock feature?

Maybe that needs re-programming? I don't understand the PO states it's been doing this since new, it's def not a standard feature as far as I know.
It's either that or some weird short, I'd say. But tbo, locking mechanisms and their electrics are not my cuppa...
