so last monday it was -15 degrees fahrenheit out here. my jeep has worked fine (except for a neutral safety switch malfunction last year) until that monday. i was heading out for work and i turned it on for about ten minutes to let it warm up. the heater, power windows and stereo didnt start, but the headlights and the interior lights worked fine.. i said crap.. it could be a fuse. i drove it like this for a mile, came to a red light, and the car died. i turned it on again (took the jeep some effort, which was new to it) and suddenly the heater and stereo came on. i drove it for about another mile and as i slowed down to turn it died again. this time it didn't want to start, it just ket cranking. after a while of me trying to turn it on it smelled burned.. it didnt start again and i towed it home. i tried to jump it, and still no. i got a new battery, checked the alternator and starter, and even changed out the crankshaft position sensor (cps) but it just cranks when i try to turn it on. it WANTED to start after i disconnected and reconnected the old cps, but thats as much as i've gotten out of it. ;( also the gen light is on above the check engine light on the dash.

 

Check to see if you have a good spark and what your fuel pressure is.

 

Two main flavours in cranking-no starts: no fuel or no spark. Like suggested, you need to find out which one applies and we go from there.

Meanwhile: CPS changed for an OEM? Last tune-up?
