I just bought a 96 Cherokee. It has a random stalling and sputtering issue. When it starts up it acts nice. Then after a while it will start sputtering slightly and missing. Sometimes it goes away on its own and sometimes it will get worse until it dies. Then it will usually start back up and be fine or keep stalling after starting back up. When it won't immediately start back up it will idle at about 250rpm and you can hear the engine kind of dieseling and won't Rev and then dies. Then after a few starts it acts like nothing is wrong. I have recently changed the crankshaft position sensor and both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. Only once has it grabbed codes (O2 sensors) and that is why I changed the sensors. Any ideas?

have you checked your fuel pressure

 

How old is the ignition coil? Is it cracked?

Same with the distributor cap and rotor?

How old are the plugs and wires?

 

I plan to change plugs, wires, cap rotor and all tonight.

 

I will read up on how to check it.
