Hey Guys,
Question regarding the oil pressure guage.
I bought a 1996 Jeep Cherokee 2WD, 4.0, Straight 6. The Instrument Cluster was common w/ the oil and temp lights. I went to a junk yard and purchased a cluster with the oil and temp guages. I placed the new cluster in the jeep. I also purchased new oil sensor and a new temp sensor due to the guages instead of the idiot lights.
The temp gauge work fine.
The oil gauge reads over 80. I replaced the gauge and sensor twice and nothing changed. so I did some reseach through this website.
With the key off the gauge is at 0 or below. In the On position its 0 but when I start the Cherokee it shoots over to 80. every time.
So, I started testing for a wiring issue: I disconnected the line to the sensor and the exact same as above. Which to me means the line is grounded somewhere.
The line at the connector is bare wire for about an inch, So I taped it up.
After that I traced it to the ECU but did not diconnect to check it there.
So after all that: to what am I missing, If the ECU connector shows to be ok, what next?
This is driving me crazy, all past jeeps have been great toys, this is my only issue so far.
any help is much appreachiated.

I am having a similar problem. Except my gauge is either broken or something went wrong. It's laying flat and won't move at all. I am wondering if it's the sending unit or if my gauge cluster is just done for. Any help would be great! I have an '89 Jeep cherokee straight 6.
