First time was Thursday, my ex-wife was driving it while my daughter had her car. (no biggie she suffered in the heat) J/k. But seriously,i had it towed to work, it fired up the next day and ran for quite awhile. Saturday my daughter went and picked it up and drove it 30 mins home and no issues. Got in it to go out Saturday night and went 3 miles and it died again. Would not start for atleast an hour whil tow truck was coming. Towed to work again and it fired right up Sunday and today. Idled in back lot for almost 2 hours and i drove it to lunch no issues. Any ideas where to start and what to check? Thanks!!!

Next time it dies loosen the gas cap. I know it sounds like an odd thing to do but my brother had this issue on his 95 before it was wrecked. It would idle all day long with no problems but would not make it more than 2 miles down the road before dying. The vent tube for the gas tank had become weak with age and at idle was strong enough to stay open. Driving created enough vacuum to collapse the tube and make the computer think it was out of fuel. Loosen the gas cap and it ran fine allowing the tank to breathe properly. If that works then replace the vent hose and all should be good.

For reference, this is exactly why you are not supposed to top off the tank at the gas station. There has to be a certain amount of empty space in the tank for ventilation or the ECM will read an EVAP error and cause a CEL code.

How was it running just before it died? Did it run ruff or did it just shut off without any warning?
A couple of things you can check out is See if you have good fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge. Next check for spark next time it stalls out on you. If you have good fuel pressure it is very possible that your CPS is starting to go out.

It was running fine, according to both ex/and daughter. No warning at all. I will try the gas cap issue also if it dies again.

It is not likely to be the gas cap. If it was that it would have acted like it was running out of gas. But if it just stopped more then likely it's going to be the CPS.

Thats the direction we are heading. It finally died yesterday while idling in back lot. was getting ready to test it(we are a nissan dealership and my guys arent familiar with exactly how to check it) but when he got ready to it fired back up.
