1996 Cherokee Country fuel pressure HELP
I can not find ANYWHERE that will definitively tell me what the running pressure should be. Mine is 35psi but I've seen some people say 30-35psi and others say 49psi.
Can someone please help lol.

97+ have the 49psi and no fp regulator on the rail.
Your 96 is crossover year. Have a look if you have the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail (engine bay) and you'll have your answer.

The part number is 4798941. A quick search on it shows most sites have the pump itself and not the whole assembly (float, sending unit, screen, etc.)
Did find a complete one here if you need it.

The fuel pump/sender/regulator are integral on the '96, and technically you need the whole assembly, which was available from Carter, but I dont know whether it still is
I replaced just the fuel pump unit in one of mine, and I think it was the '95 and earlier unit
There is a thread somewhere on NAXJA all about the '96 fuel assembly situation
The regulator can be replaced but I am not sure how. Apparently the regulator is the same for 95 and 97 except a vacuum hose is connected or not
One of my '96 has a defective fuel gauge circuit, and this is by all accounts the hardest thing to get around
Look up that thread, or I can probably find a reference to it in my notes
Us '96 guys have to stick together
I have 3 x '96, but my first one got smashed badly, and is now a farm truck and potential source of spare parts, I had another good one that I bought very cheap as a non-goer (no fuel pump), but another idiot smashed that one as well, it still runs well, I pulled the Viscous coupler pulley/bearing out of it to keep my 3rd one on the road, as a new bearing had to come from Canada (to Australia)

Been there, done that. Just go ahead and get the whole assembly from Crown. You can waste your time and try to figure out what part you need or do a quick cry about the cost of the assembly and have your XJ working right.

You may be able to find it cheaper on another site. Take the part number on this site and plug it in somewhere else.

I know this is an older thread but I have a 96 Cherokee sport and if it sits for 5 minutes. It loses prime. I have replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator and tested injectors. All rubber fuel lines have been replaced. New filter installed. There are no visible leaks anywhere
