Default 1996 Cherokee bucking like a bronco

I have no idea why this is happening, it started a couple of days ago and only happened a couple of times. today it was bucking both ways to and from work??? to give you the best example of what it is doing is that it seems like it is going to run out of gas, sorry thats the best I can do other than i think it backfired as well but not sure. any ideas?

My Jeep hasnt done this but my parents dodge would do the same kind of thing. After a while the Trani just went out. So my guess would be the transmission from what it sounds like.

Default thought I fixed it

turned out the cat was busted on the inside replace the cat and muffler seemed to be fine but now and again it bucks, nothing like before but definitely still does it. I will be checking the sparks and cap but short of replacing parts I am not a mechanic, so what am I looking for when I remove these to check them or should I just replace them anyway? any other suggestions as to what I should check are welcome.

Thank you

Check engine light?

I would check the front o2 sensor. Make sure its there, it works and the fuse for it (in the PDC) is not blown.

Throttle position sensor and Crankshaft sensor can casue this as well. Do you have a multi-meter?
