I cant find the whole assembly for sale, I've found just a replacement pump but not the whole sending unit. I've tried all the websites and the chain stores. Any help would be appreciated. 4.0 2WD

 

Why are you replacing it? Has the pump gone bad or just the sending unit?

 

Pump has gone bad, have to cycle the ignition a couple times to get it to start on the first crank. I just want to replace it while I'm​ working on the tank. Am I wrong that they usually come as full assemblies or am I crazy?

 

I got the whole unit new from Advance Auto. It's an old CarQuest manufactured unit but fit and function were perfect. I didn't have a problem finding availability of the whole pump/sending unit. I did that job about 2 months ago. When you do get one I suggest opening the package and looking at it. Make sure that when the springs of the lower unit mounting the pump are compressed upward the hose from the pump does not kink at the top where it's clamped onto the filter hose barb.

 

Do you really need the full assembly? Sounds like just the pump is all you need.

 

You are correct, the pump really is all I need. But I figure I might as well replace the full assembly since it probably hasn't been touched in 23 years. Thanks for the help!

 

I've found the full unit for every other make and model but not one that fits a 95 Cherokee 4.0 2wd
