I have a 1995 Cherokee, and recently the driver's window has started only working with the door open. I think it is probably a loose wire in the door, but I was hoping there was somebody else who had a similar problem who could help.

 

Check the wiring from the door wiring harness through the dust boot to the wiring harness under your drivers kick pannel. My guess is that one of the wires is broken or one of the harnesses is loose or corroded

 

Its not too hard to take off the door panel to see the wires behind there. All the wires are color coded so that makes them easy to follow for breaks. One of my wires was broken inside of its plastic cover and the only way I found it was with a multimeter.

I agree. I had issues with the wires between the door and body. Peel back the rubber boot and take a look. My wires were tight I would imagine because our limiting straps are long and tend to wear and break. I was able to wiggle a little more play out of the wires.
