Default 1995 cherokee limp mode???

I have a 1995 xj and it seems to be in limp mode. First the tranny seemed to be stuck in OD. I disconnected the battery and that seemed to fix the shifting problem. Now its running under reduced power and wont rev passed 4000rpms. Its also getting blow by through the pcv. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

I'd take a look at the TPS for starters. CCV (what you are referring to as PCV)- are the hoses intact and orifice clear?

Is the engine light on? If it is get the codes checked https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/dia...de-list-78108/

But I second the TPS sensor, had mine go out last year, same sort of stuff happened.

Thanks for the responses! It seemed to have fixed it self for the time being. Weird thing was I was having no codes. Ill look into the TPS if the problem starts happening again. Also what I was refering to when I said PCV is the hose that is on the front of the valve cover and goes to the air box.

Yep, It's a "ccv" on this engine, but it performs the same function as PCV.
That front hose is the intake-clean air is pulled from the air box into the motor. The rear hose is attached to manifold vacuum and sucks the fumes back out. There is a small orifice in the rear hose fitting to meter the flow. If that rear hose or orifice plugs the crankcase blows back through the front hose, dumping oil in your airbox.

Is there anyway to clean the orifice in the rear hose?

Carb cleaner, small piece of wire, air compressor blow gun. Then again breaking upon removal is SOP and the new one you install won't be clogged.
It's in the elbow @ the rear valve cover fitting. The elbow and grommet get brittle, don't be surprised if it crumbles.
