1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 starting issue or Demon possessed?
I purchased a 1994 Grand Cherokee about a week ago. Towed it home as it would not start. Previous owner replaced the starter and battery. I charged the battery and it would not start. I suspected the alternator and after it checked bad I replaced it. The jeep started but would not idle and sounded terrible. Pulled the spark plugs and two were gapped at about 1/8" and the other four had so much carbon buildup that I could not see the end of the plug! 175,000 mile vehicle and maybe the original plugs? Anyway I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. The car would not start. After checking the forum I thought that the crankshaft position sensor was bad. I replaced that tonight and the jeep still would not start. I removed the coil wire to check for spark, cranked the jeep over and put the coil wire back on and the jeep started. Drove it around the block and parked it. Five minutes later I tried to start it and it would not start. Pulled the coil wire from the distributor cranked the engine over and then put the coil wire back on and it started right up. I have repeated this scenario several times. It will not start, I pull the coil wire, crank the engine, replace the coil wire and it starts????? The last time I tried to start it i was heading to the coil wire when I heard a click, click, click. I did not pull the coils wire but just went back and turned the key and it started? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update on issue
Went out this morning and jeep would not start. Pulled the coil wire and turned the jeep over then replaced the coil wire and it still would not start. Checked and no spark and no gas pressure at the rail. As I was putting a spark plug back in something from near the relay area clicked and I could hear the fuel rail pressurize. Turned the key and it started. Any help would be appreciated.

I wish the answer was a relay. I have checked them all an they are all ok. I even replaced the fuel pump relay with a new one. Still no luck. If the fuel pump is bad does the computer kill the spark to the engine?

Fixed!
After checking all the relays I did a little more searching for my problem on the web. Found a post of a similar problem that was caused by the computer. When I was trying to start the jeep there wasn't an engine light coming on. I replaced the computer and it started on the first try! If you do not see the engine light when trying to start the computer may be bad.
