Default 1993 Cherokee engine swap querie........

I own a very reliable 1993 Cherokee, 4.0 with an automatic. The engine blew a hole in the top of a piston at 355,500 maintenace free miles. I would like to replace the engine, and keep it, everything including the air conditioning works. I'm getting conflicting information on what year 4.0 engines fit my '93. Would anyone have a simple, and concise list of what year , and model of 4.0 engines would be a direct plug in replacement for my '93 4.0? Thank you for your help in advance. Thanks for any help you can offer me. I'm out of my element when it comes to JEEPS. I can use all the help I can get. Thank you so much, COOTER

Default I wish I had the answer

I wish I could answer your question, but sadly I'm here for the same reason. Looking to deck my 93 Cherokee out and replace the motor, but cant find any guides on such. If I do I will repost here.

your pretty much safe with anything from 1991-1999, just get a engine your comfortable with, i had the luck one time of listening to the engine run in the vehicle before i bought it (craigslist), my 1994 has a 1998 4.0 in it, theyre all about the same, just make sure to keep track of your accessories when swapping them, took me 6 hrs to pull, swap parts and re-install and run it! good luck!

This.... I put a '93 in my 99, just swap accessories, one big key if going to a 96 or newer is use your original Fuel Injectors, the older only run @ 39PSI 96 up runs @ 49 PSI. Just use your best judgement, if you go look take someone knowledgable to look it over. Good Luck

If you are doing a complete swap, I would suggest a 91-96.... other will fit but you have to use your acc and fuel rail, injectors etc.
Good luck!
