Default 1993 Cherokee Country Questions...

Ok, I have a '93 Country... it is an automatic tranny, 4 door 4x4. If my research is correct then I have the following... please correct me if I am wrong as I am going to be working on it soon to restore my 4 wheel drive capabilities...

Driveshaft - Front: The front is two piece "Double Cardan" with a CV joint at the T-Case.
Rear: Standard with slip yoke at output of Tranny.

Tranny - AW4

T-Case - NP231

Front Axle - Dana 30 with 3.55:1
Rear Axle - Dana 35c now with 4.56:1

A heads up...

T-case is destroyed and the chain is in pieces, I can only assume because of the stock front gear... but none the less, destroyed. I will be putting the same gears in front and out back. I will be staying with 31x10.5x15 tires BF All Terrain tires and switching to 4.10:1 gears.

How do I know if I have a tow package on this Jeep... It has a hitch... Reese, with a 2" hole and the hitch is bolted to the frame. The jeep is lifted 4" via suspension. I am going to be working on this piece by piece in no particular order unless instructed other wise. The suspension will be upgraded to a BDS 4.5" as well. There is already a steering stabilizer shock.

Any tips, hints, suggestions, knowledge, been there done that's or whatever will be welcome and appreciated... alot

Thanks, Mike

the tow package is the hitch and ball. You just need to know how much weight you are towing with it and make sure you don't over load the tranny or the put too much stress on the tow package. As for the Transfer case, make sure the front and back are geared the same and you won't run into that issue again.

I also have a 93 country edition. I always just thought it had some nicer interior trim and moldings with the different wheels. I put a set of sport steel wheels and painted them anyway. I always thought country's only came with the 242 t-case?

I am still waiting for a day off of work so I can get under the Jeep and look for the tag on the T-case. I have seen some on ebay and they are about how much I thought they would be. I just want to make sure the year I get is compatible with my '93.

Also, it will sit for a while until I get the front and rear gears to match, then get all new tires. At least that is the plan. I can always put the t-case in and just leave the front drive shaft off for a while... seems ok like this right now... I just don't know if the t-case and tranny share the same fluid... if so, my tranny is dry!! :O
