Default 1992 XJ steering slack

Hey guys, bought my first XJ a couple weeks ago. I love it, but have about an inch of slack in the steering. Its got new ball joints and every other joint doesnt appear to have any play or boot damage. Its been lifted 2.5 inches, but still seems to have more play than it should. Any insight on what it could be?

It can be the steering gear box is wearing out. Yo may want to check into that.

Have a helper rock the steering wheel back and forth while you inspect the steering, starting with the input shaft (going into the box). At some point you'll find the component that's moving at one end but not the other.
