Default 1992 Cherokee 4.0L - A/C question. Where is low pressure port?

Hey guys, been poring over my service manual and came up without an answer.

Where is the low pressure port for the A/C? Is it on the back of the condenser, or is there a different spot? I took a few pictures, but wasn't able to find anything that jived with the manual.

I just got off the phone with my stepdad, and he's about 75% sure that they had it retrofitted from r-12 to r-134 a few years back, sadly, they live on the opposite coast from me, so I can't just take it over.

I'd prefer to take it in, but the cheapest place I've found wants $110 just for me to walk in the door, plus another $50 "if all it needs" is less than 2# of refrigerant. I can't afford that, sadly.

So there are two hoses coming off the back of the compressor, would one of those be the ones I'm looking for? One is much larger in diameter than the other.

How about us renix guys with the other style ac compressor, where the lines come off the top of the unit? From the radiator, which is the low if yours is still set up for r12?

ok, on the top picture, which is that? The cap on the left, or the one in the middle of the hose on the bottom?

Thanks!

i do apologize for my misinformation but i did some checking and it will be the small not the large it is the line on the top in your first pic if you remove the cap that looks like a metal valve stem cap it hooks up there

i bought one of those kits but since my lines come off the compressor differently, the ac recharge kits don't fit. the lines are too close together.

Rock on, thank you. Hopefully the retrofit was done and the recharge kit fits, if not, looks like warm air for camping this weekend.

Where were you able to find a schematic that showed which line was which?

Ok, cool. I should know pretty quickly if it's not the low pressure line, I'd guess. Just as long as nothing explodes, good to go.

Guess I need to get a retrofit done.

Take it to a shop when you have the funds. You just spent money on something that did not fit. Rolling the windows down won't cost you a dime my friend.

Looking at the back of your compressor, The high side in on top and the low side is on the bottom. There are a couple of to remember and be able to identify the high side and low side on any vehicle. The high side meaning the high presure is the smaller(narrower) pipe since the narrower the pipe is the more presure the liquid carries. The other way is to the high side goes from the compressor to the condensor and then to the dryer and finally to the evaporator but not including the evaporator. When the liquid gets to the evaporator it become gas again and losses presure and low side begins. Therefore from evaporator to the compressor is the low side. I have just started to learn about AC but the first thing to realize that is you must understand how AC works or you be shooting in the dark. In my ammature apoinion AC work is the simmillar to working on an automatics transmission. Without understanding the hydrolic you won't have a chance to get any results. Most people do more harm than good by buying one of those bottles and hooking it up blindly without reading the low and high presure.
