I need some tips on making my ride smoother, I have new shocks that I need to install. Should I get new coil springs as well?
Let's see a pic of your springs.
I put heavy-duty front springs on my 87 4.0L, for snow plow purposes but it really didn't make it "ride" much rougher if at all going down the highway. Just has more weight capacity when additional weight is appiled. So even if yours had heavy duty springs on it, I'm not sure that would make a lot of difference. Someone may have put stiffer shocks on it before you (if it's pre-owned). In that case, a standard shock may make it more compliant on the highway.

They don't look like heavy-duty springs, are they OEM? My HD springs have more coils.
What tire pressure are you running? High tire pressure could cause a more jolting ride. Might experiment dropping down to a lower level if it's high. (staying within the 'safe' range of course)
