All right, just swapped a 1995 4.0L into my 90 Cherokee. I took all the sensors, intake, exhaust, and all accessories off the 90 block and put them on the 95 block. Well it run's like a champ, except for the cooling system is not cooling. Filled the bottle on the fire wall, cranked it up and seemed not to circulate. Checked the rotation of the water pump, looks good.(turns CCW looking at it from the front) The water pump came off the 90 block. (Didn't overheat on that one) Checked to make sure guage was right.(used lazer temp gun on head). Opened up the T-stat housing, T-stat was open but no coolant came out. The only place coolant came out of was where the heater hose connects. Doesn't seem to be flowing through the radiator either, the tanks on the radiator get warm, but the center is cool.

I know that the 90 cooling system is "closed system" and the 95 uses an "open system" You might need to burp the cooling system. try this http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...BurpAirMod.htm

Burped it the old fashioned way,(you don't even wanna know). It worked. Luckily I already have a 92+ T-Stat housing on there so I'm definitley going to do the mod !!! I got most of the air out, so it doesn't overheat now. Temp guage moves around a bit so I will do that mod tomorrrow and get the rest of the air out then. (I have the parts laying around the shed already for the mod).
Thanks a ton !!!!
This happened to me when i replaced my radiator. I ended up pressurizing it with my mouth on the coolant tank then waiting for the bubbles to stop and do it again. Worked great! lol
