1989 Jeep Cherokee Sport towing capacity?
My 17 year old son and his 19 year old friend with little to no experience pulling ANY kind of trailer recently went to the local U-Haul with her 1989 Jeep Cherokee sport with a bumper hitch and told them they wanted to tow home his 1989 Ford F150 4x4 with a lift kit and oversize tires. U-Haul put a dual axle car hauler onto her Jeep and never even hooked up any electrical/brake wiring because there was none to hook up (the Jeep didn't have the wiring plug). They went and picked up the F150 and didnt get 5 miles down the road when the weight of the combination tore the bumper off the Jeep and ended up in the middle of the road with the truck half way off of it. They ended up with over 750.00 in towing charges and over 3500.00 in citations over a trailer that should have never left the U-Haul yard. Im trying to get some info on exactly what the towing capacity of this jeep is as im taking U-Haul to court over this. As far as I can tell it looks like it shouldn't have been towing any more than avout 2400 pounds and the trailer empty according to U-Hauls website is over 2200 pounds...and that is with a class 3 hitch.

It can tow 5k but that f150 alone is probably 5k and the trailer is close to 2k.And they shouldnt have let them rent a trailer with the jeep its too small and no trailer brakes is illegal for that weight also.
