Default 1989 Jeep Cherokee EGR Valve

Does anyone know where to buy a new EGR valve for a 1989 Jeep cherokee? I think mine may be stuck open. Going to be testing this weekend. I did google search and found no matching parts.

i replaced mine about year ago. Private party sale for a nos unit. yes they are hard to find. you may consider a rebuild service.
or pick n pull there is a renix jeep in san jose pick n pull.

try Row 52 website

Must be the season for EGR failures. The EGR's for the 4.0 include that black "flying saucer" gizmo called the transducer. It's all activated by the solenoid on the inside driver .

The EGR is getting extremely scarce. There have been a lot of recent posts from folks needing to find one.

The EGR I found at a local Autoparts place almost 2 years ago. No one seems to have it locally or online.

The EGR Solenoid circled in red

Why do you think it's stuck open? It would have to have constant vacuum coming from the solenoid, or caked up carbon on the pintle.

Solenoid is part #33002298. Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks.

Oooh they're expensive (if even available).
'Cause I'm cheap, I was thinking jerry/jury rigging something that would fit the plumbing the best and also be least offensive looking but need to know if this one is normally open or closed (ignition off).
I think closed.
When I tried this approach in the past, I found most all were the opposite of how this one was configured.

Maybe someone with a working one can test theirs. Mine is completely shot - closed always.
Thanks.

Since mine works, I haven't looked too deeply at it. However, It does appear there are other solenoids that perform in a similar fashion, they may require fabbing a mount.

Looking at the pic above, the vac line on the right is the vacuum source. The dual headed one on the left goes to the transducer. The stubby one is simply a vent.

Here's a pic of the solenoid. First disconnect the wiring connector. Then use a direct 12v source to jump across the 2 terminals, polarity doesn't matter. Does the solenoid click? If not, solenoid is bad.

Next, remove vac line going the egr valve. With the engine running, remove the vacuum source line, test for vacuum. If not present, you have a vacuum leak somewhere. If present, place back on solenoid. With no 12v source applied (deenergized) you should get vacuum at port B and port A is blocked off. Apply 12v (energize) and Port B should no longer have vacuum and instead vent through Port A. If still good, check the rest of the vacuum lines going the the transducer, and both lines from the transducer to the valve itself.

The transducer is plastic. If you're careful, you can remove the top and inspect the diaphragm and spring.

Thank you Saudade.
All the plumbing and electrical stuff checks out.
I applied vacuum on "C" and whether I applied 12V or not, no click and no vacuum measured on "B".
"B" is always vented to "A" but I will consider that stuck closed (B to C).
The function information you provided answers my question to be "normally open".
Thanks, that's what I need to know.
Maybe I can find a normally closed solenoid that has a vent like this one which would be "normally open".
Great info. Thanks again.
