start by checking the fuse's. I was having a weird brake light problem and it turned out the wires going from the lift gate to the body actually broke inside the little wire cover boot

fuse or check the line for shorts. my turn signal fuse prongs are loose, and so if it comes loose, the lights won't work.

yes. it is under the hood on the passenger side. if the fuses are not the problem the wiring harness connecter is on the driverside rear of the vehicle where the spare tire would go from the factory. i had an issue with my 00 not always having lights in the rear and ended up having to go in and fix the connector.

Not in 89. Only fusebox is under the dash.

Make sure the "trans" fuse is good for your back up lights.

If your reverse lights are not working you nss needs to be cleaned.

Op did you check your brake light switch?

Ok first you thread jacked.
The nss pertains to you. You back up lights are controlled by your nss (neutral safety switch) on the side of the tranny passenger side.
If it gets crusty inside your lights won't work.

Op stands for original poster.
