Default 1989 JBL Premium Sound

I have a 89 Wagoneer Limited with the "Premium Sound" Package. Amazingly the system still sounds pretty good but I dont have a whole lot of music on cassette anymore, even if the player does have kick *** dolby logic and a digital display.

So with this in mind Im going to change the head unit, the problem being is that nobody makes a harness for the Premium Sound System. Im not sure why but I have a sinking feeling that at the very least JBL uses non-standard wiring and may have hidden amplifiers in line some place.

If anyone has done this, or knows where I can pull this schematic up, it would be much appreciated.

Forget the harness.

But if you must have one try best buy. It makes no difference because you still have to splice the harness adaptor to the radio anyways.

All radios are te same back there. If your not hooking up your own amp or using RCAs then it's all the same. If there is an amp in the car the sound will still travel to it via your new radio.

Edit:
I used to work install at Best Buy Car Fi. It's bee a while but Pm me if u need help.

X2. I agree, for the amount of work splicing the harness in. Just to couple them together. You could of splice the head unit wires into the old factory harness. Skipping the coupler. With that said, I my self run all new wire. I don't trust factory wire. (usually 18 GA., and who knows how many splices.) Nor, do I trust what the PO did. So I run new, 16 GA. speaker wire ( no splices) And new wire from head unit to fuse box, and to grd. If you plan on add a amp. You have to run that off the battery. This way, I know what I have. And if any problems come up. I know where to look. I myself have 5.25's" speakers in the front doors. 1" tweeters under the dash, 6X9's in the rear hatch, 10" sub in the pass. side rear pocket. A 1400 watt 5 channel amp under the rear seat. And a good quality head unit. It sounds great, like a concert hall. Good luck to you.

I have a 1989 Cherokee Limited with the JBL premium sound package. My speakers were toast so I ordered a new stereo and front speakers from crutchfield. The wiring harnesses they sent me for the stereo and speakers worked perfectly. When I ordered it I did not specify that I had the premium sound package. I believe that all vehicles of the same make and year will have the exact same stereo harness regardless of the factory stereo package.
