So my jeep started giving me problems this weekend. i will go to start my jeep and it will start but the starter stays on whining! it is not shooting forward hitting the flywheel its just turning and turning. and today on my way to work it was still doing it and when i got to work it had stopped so i disconnected my battery just in case it was shorting out somewhere, when i came back out to start my jeep up you can hear the starter turning but it does not shoot forward to hit the flywheel. please help !!! need to know why its staying stuck on while the jeep is on and driving, and need to know if it just got to hot and is shot. i have not gone to autozone to have it tested yet!

Start by getting under there and looking at it. Check the cables. If the positive to the solonoid is somehow making contact with the terminal out of the sol into the starter, (or there is a socket or something in there), that's what it would do, spin without engaging.

I cleaned the connectors and bought a new starter hooked it up and it started right up and stopped doing what it did before ! I fried my old starter from it staying on! I think it was from playing in the mud, it must of shorted out or something ! Thank you for that problem! Now I have a new problem when I play in the mud the jeep turns off as soon as I touch mud. It seems like it is flooding but that can not happen because it is a throttle body. I can smell gas when I pop the hood and it will crank and crank but not start. After it sitting there for a while it starts and runs ruff for a but then it runs fine! I have checked my fuel pressure and it's where it needs to be. Any idea why that is that it does that ?
