on a desert trip a while back my mom was getting crazy and hit a bump at like 40 mph and we herd a snap i look back and the rear hatch strut was hanging down.. the ball joint that holds up the strut ripped off halfway...

i was wondering if any one knew for sure
1.how the ball joint (technical term for this part: ball stud) is fastened for a 1988 jeep Cherokee 4 door 4.0 ltr
2 how to remove and put a new one on?

mine unscrew off the body never replaced the one on the hatch easy mom
