Bought 1987 Jeep Cherokee Xj.
manual 177000miles
It’s been on non op
previously was sitting for a year.
wont pass smog
Changed out the map sensor, and o2 sensor.
smog station said it had a high idle.
ordered a new Cat converter. Until then what else am I missing?
vacuum lines are all good.

my observation is that Idle of 697 RPM does not appear high, but the CO/CO2/HC are so far over that something is grossly improper with the internal combustion of the motor
I would look for a stuck injector/ measure compression for possible stuck rings & examine spark plugs, they must be black as soot with those readings?
Does the engine emit visible tailpipe emissions that smell of fuel or oil ?

In the process of doing steps 1-5.
Can anyone tell me what these are?
Can’t find where this plugs into.
These appear to be two vacuum tubes. Again can’t find where these hook up to.
This wire is attached to the housing that plugs into the 02 sensor.

You have manual trans? If so, that plug in the first photo is for auto trans vehicles only.
I can't tell anything from second pic.
Third pic, I'm not sure. On that 87, do you have a display in the dash for oil level etc?

Where at in california are you? I'm down south in the inland empire with an 87 automatic. Maybe we can compare and see where those wires go if that helps.

Those two hoses look like they would go to the EVAP canister. I could very well be wrong though.

Oh snap, me too! I'm off University in that neighborhood just east of the Starbucks, on the corner of Hudson park. Small world.
