I have recently purchased a 1986 cherokee only to find that the tail lights dont work. The brake lights, turn signals, headlights all work fine...but no tail lights. All the fuses and bulbs are good...any suggestions before i hard wire them to my headlights?
I did a search for tail lamps and saw that someone was having this same problem..however they never really said how they fixed it..lol

ok, so just to clarify, the taillights work, except when you have the headlights on they don't light up like they should? perhaps check with a voltmeter, and see if there is voltage getting there (could be a ground issue)

Yeah I recently have the same problem. Everything works fine except my left rear marker/tail light does not work. I replaced the bulb and still nothing. My brake light works when I step on the brake pedal, as well does my reverse and blinker lights. For some reason the tail light does not work when I put my lights on.

i had the same problem when i bought my 1990 limited. what you have to do is disconnect the lighting harness and check each wire with an ohm meter. the harness is behind the driver side kick panel. what i did was just keep unplugging connectors untill the fuse didnt blow. once the fuse doesn't blow you know you have isolated the short. mine had a bullet connector for the liscens plate light that was sorting out so fixing that solved my problem.
