Default 1986 2.8l v6 cherokee

so i have a 86' 2.8L v6 cherokee that has like a 4inch lift... however she has 210k on it and i was wondering if there are any simple ways to give me some extra power without swaping the motor or anything major. i ran sea foam through it and that did alot and i just put a np242 transfer case in it.
also is it possible to swap for the 4.0 and how hard would it be???? if its hard as the T case was i wont cuz that was a pain.

any conversions are alot of work theres a good write up of putting a big v6 into a xj or 4.0 would require complete wire harness and ecm from donor vechicle

X2 with freegdr, there is not much you can do with the 2.8L GM V6 that wouldn't require money, time and aggravation. Just do the maintenance and tuneups as required and it should continue to run fine for you until the time comes for another XJ or the opportunity to mode this one.

If that v6 is still running, thats amazing. I agree with the other guys though. I say wait until you can find an XJ with a 4.0 already in it. Then swap over the good stuff from the 86 and have fun.

Comp Cams used to make a high performance kit for the 2.8 and you can get high compression pistons for it too, but that would be like putting lipstick on a pig's butt. I would just drive it until I found an affordable XJ with a 4.0 and swap the good stuff from the 86 over, less work and cheaper in the long run.

Just think, a 4.0 can run twice that. There was one guy on here not too long ago that just turned 400k on his 4.0

Best swap for the 2.8 engines are the 3.4 v6. Those engines really wake up the jeep. The have much more low end torque and you can gt quite a few aftermarket parts for them. If you want more info on the swap or parts lemme know.

you need more than just the 4.0 with ecm wiring harness and poss the tranny from same year would be easiest

Take your buddy's rig and swap in your axles and be done with it.
