Default 16" vs 17"

My buddy has a new JK. He wants to spend $ on wheels and tires. He's thinking 33's but not sure on 16" or 17". Anyone have an opinion on pros and cons of going with 17s?

tires cost more and the tires will also be stiffer because the sidewall wont be as big i personally would never run anything over 16 on a 4x4 but thats just MHO

why not?

most comp rigs run 17" rims and 37" rubber.

I would run 15" cus the cost is way less for tires

find the tire you like and check the prices for all three rim sizes
you will be surprised how much more tire for the bigger rims are

they are running 37s so they have plenty of tire wall is your buddy planning on running 37s? plus bigger rims more area for rocks to hit and more expensive to replace

I just upgraded from 15 to 16 and kinda regret it. Most LT 16" tires have a D or E load rating and are pretty stiff tires not to mention they costs alot more. You get a stronger tire though. I'm not familiar with 17" sizes.

the 16 will be the better set up. depending how big a tire he wants to put on if you are going 37 plus then the 17's will be ok. but if going less stick to the 16 i would rather have side wall then bling

you cant fit 15s on a JK unless you have ridiculous amounts of backspacing... you need at least 16s to clear the brakes.

The rule of thumb for good tire flex is not to exceed 50% of the diameter with rim diameter. So on 33s you would not want more than a 16" rim. On 35s, 17".
