Height wise you should be fine. But if you would have clearances issues you can eliminate it by increasing your bump stop length. One problem could be the tires hitting the lower control arms if the rims don't have enough back space. I ran 235/75R15's on 15x7" factory steel rims. Tire width on them is 9.3". Back space was 5.25" and under certain situations the tires would hit the LCA's. I'm now running the same size tires on 15x7" rims with a back space of 4.25" and all is good. So what is the back space on those 16" rims?

Hi Sabbadolato,

I have a 2001 XJ Limited with the factory 16 inch ICON alloys. I run BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2's sized at LT245/75R16 and that's about a 30.5 inch tall tire, the next size up LT265/75R16 will bring you over to 31.6 inches and I didn't want to get a 3 inch lift and risk failing my state inspection due to new regulations about lifted vehicles (Massachusetts). I did have to put a couple fender washers in the steering stop bolts to stop tires from rubbing at full lock.

The lift I have is a 2.5" budget boost with coil spacers over new Crown heavy duty front springs, and Rough Country shackle relocation kit in the back with new Crown heavy duty leaf springs which I hate because the relocation kit geometry makes the leaf springs stick down and look like they are worn out, which they're not (should have just paid for an OME kit and kept my original shackles), so at 3 inches you should be fine to run "31" inches. At $195 per tire, don't forget to budget for 5 tires since you'll need a spare to match the bigger tires.

hope this helps,
Squelchtone

A 31" tire is a 31" tire regardless if you have 15", 16" or a 20" wheel. The only thing that changes is the amount of sidewall you will have

You can calculate the total diameter of tire sizes here:
