Default 02 Sensor

Can a bad O2 sensor cause an engine to missfire? The check engine light came on a week or so ago with a reading of a problem with the downstream o2 sensor. Yesterday the jeep started to misfire but it has cleared up for now. Just wondering if this could have been caused by the sensor.

Downstream O2 sensor monitors the catalytic converter, so I would say thats not the cause of the misfire. Was there a code for a misfire? An inspection of the tune up items, Plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor is in order.
