01 XJ
Picking up a 01 XJ this Saturday. Guys wants 2000 obo. Has all the bells and whistles, including a sunroof! Has 143K on it, needs a water pump, tie rod ends, tires and there is a small dent on the rear bumper. My question is that out of all the XJs I have owned (6) I have never owned a 2000-2001 XJ is there anything I should look out for. I planning on this one being my daily driver. I plan to do a 3 inch rough country, 31s and some power adders but that's it. So if anyone has advice on these year models, the info would be great. Pretty excited to be honest.

Here is the Craigslist ad. Says the motor was replaced 2 years ago.

I talked to the seller and the shop that has done the work on it. They said they replaced the 2 rear freeze plugs about a month ago. The seller has been very upfront with me and says he has all the receipts from all the work done. He says he is selling it for so cheap because the shop recommended all this work and he is tired of dumping so much money into it.

I wouldn't necessarily rule it out because of the freeze plugs being replaced. I had to replace two of mine in the back simply because they had rotted out and were leaking. I don't have a cracked head or anything like that, it's just a wear item. They're not metal or anything...

How much is it worth to you IF you have to replace the head?
Assuming the head is cracked, and that's an assumption at best as none of us have checked it out ourselves, are you willing to put in another $500 maybe and put one on it?
When the engine was replaced it may very well have an updated head on it that is NOT prone to cracking like the 00' 01' 0331 castings like mine.
$2000 isn't bad for a fixer upper BUT it does sound like this Jeep has been run hard or just not maintained. My 01' has 139,000 on the clock and I am negelctful as hell on maintenance and all I've done, and this is the past week, is radiator, water pump and fan clutch. Just sent off an oil sample so I might need a head. That's all because I'm rough on a car.
So really, what do you want out of it and what is it worth to you?

Ahh, 2000 and 2001 models have low pinion diffs also. Plus crack prone heads. The 2000 and 2001 models pretty much were thrown together with left over parts because Jeep knew they were ending them anyhow.
