Default 01 Cherokee AW4 pan bolt torque spec's

Hello! I'm sure this isn't the first time this question has been asked. But my Chilton manual is listing the torque spec's as 150 inch pounds. So that is what I torqued them too. I am worried now because I think one of the side bolts may have stripped. I didnt keep going on it. But all the others torqued out fine. I have been searching the web and i have found specs from 50in lbs, 70, 80, 100, 105, 120 and 150 in lbs. So who is correct. 150 seems to tight as the gasket is smashing out the sides. I am debating if I should just leave it and see what happens or if I should take it all back apart and make sure it didnt ruin the gasket or to make sure the pan isnt tweaked. Thanks for any info.

7 ft lbs is good. 84 inch pounds. Hopefully you didn’t tear the gasket up.

If you want a service manual, get the factory service manual for your year, either a hard copy or cd. Or both.

And the AW4 pan bolts only take 53-70 inch pounds, which is only 4-5 ft pounds. Too much and you will strip the threads.

Throw that Chiltons in the trash and go download the factory service manual. Yea, 5-7 in*lbs max. More than that tends to rip the aluminum threads out of the trans and deform the edge of the pan. I'd just wait and see if it leaks. Stick a piece of thin copper wire in the stripped hole and see if the screw holds. Otherwise, helicoil, which probably means pulling the pan, try a longer screw so long as it doesn't bottom out, or force a 1/4-20 bolt in as it's slightly larger.

this works very well, but I would only do it if it leaks
