Default '00 Cherokee Sport, 4WD Issue

I'm having a bit of an issue with the 4WD in my Jeep and I was hoping I could get some ideas. The first time I noticed something was up was a few weeks ago, when I tested it out for the first time on some snowy roads. I was doing around 40mph and It slipped or something because suddenly it was as if I was in neutral. I ended up driving the rest of the way in 2WD and it was fine.

Last night I needed to use it (snowy roads) and I found that if I had the lever fully in the 4H position, it wouldn't engage. If I left the lever kind of floating there between 2WD and 4H, it engaged and stayed that way all the way to work, about a 24 mile trip.

So, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I had the same issue, went underneath and sprayed the linkage with some grease. Have to do this every now and then or it continues to lock up.
