Ouray Colo.
Took my "new to me" '97 out for a scenic drive to Ouray/Silverton Colo.
Since i'm a "Ford guy" (Bronco 2) i figured something easy till i get the feel for the Jeep.
(like all the stuff i do is easy anyways......LOL)
Mostly scenic pics.

Trail was "Maggie gulch".
Maybe "Blackbear" next time??

There is tons of this kind of machinery still up there in the mountains around Silverton and Ouray Colorado.
Much of it geared around transporting or processing rough ores in the search for gold & silver. (silver and gold? wher's Burl Ives?) LOL!
It's fascinating the determination those old miners had in just getting those HUGE peices of machinery up there in the mountains in the first place.
Then enduring the harsh winters with snowfall measured in YARDS, in their quest for gold.
Add the fact that this stuff has survived out there in this climate in the middle of nowhere for over a hundred years, and it really makes ya appreciate the old saying. . . . . .
"they dont make 'em like that anymore." no bs!
Just fer grins and giggles heres a few pics from some previous trail runs with my old Bronco.
(if those old mine machines interest ya.)
buffalo boy mine tram building (by Stony pass)

rail tracks on top of tram bldg

tram tower used to transport ore down the valley (stony pass)

ghost town of animas forks. you can see the HUGE concrete foundations of the ore mill that was once there.

back placer gulch this is the "sound democrat" mill. one of the best preserved mills on public land in southern colorado.

some more pics of the sound democrat mill and the trams that transported processed ores down the valley to Silverton

these pics were taken on trips from last year.

The pictures make me want to go visit my Dad in Durango and go down Black Bear.. I have a few pictures from Black Bear and Ophir pass, but have posted them on here before so I will refrain from hijacking your thread with them. Thanks for the pictures though and please post as many as you want.

Thought I had posted them here before but I guess I didnt. I will see what I can find.
Here is one I found looking up at the powerhouse at Bridal Veil falls.
pictures of colorado always leave me speechless. i know those are easy trails, but i so badly want to take my jeep there some time, on trails EXACTLY like those, and camp along the trails for 2 weeks. i really want to take the YJ there but id get shaken jeeper syndrome of i drive that all the way out there, so if i got, ill be in the WJ...id want to lift it a couple inches and get better tires put on for the un expected trail conditions...my WJ the way it is now wouldnt have any problems, but you never know when a trail could take a turn for the worse, or better depending on how you look at it
Tryed another one closer to home today.
"Kennebec pass" not too far from Durango Colo..
Just past Hesperus.
It was easy goin until we got to higher altitude.
I was followin some guy in a new Toyota FJ cruiser.
Snow was gettin deep, but the Cherokee was having no problems.
Came around a switchback and the FJ had gotten stuck and was trying to turn around to come back down.
I walked to where he was stuck, and decided it was too deep and risky to continue on. Not gonna try that kinda stuff on my own.
Guess winter's here?!

time to turn back

We used to go Kennebec when I was a kid. Camped up there several times. The view from the top is amazing! You can see at least two towns if I remember right.

Very beautiful. What is that mine thing you photographed with the two wheels and all the rusted spikes??
