Oregon Inlet Beach Run
Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. August 28th 2010
Just wanted to get this thread started up here in the Trail reports section. When I am able to get the pictures I took resized and uploaded I will post them here. Untill then I will just give you a rundown of the day from my persepective.
Unfortunately I ended up being late due to lack of sleep the previous night but I DID make it down. Worst part about this is I am actually the closest.
First thing I got to see was a recovery of a Chevy Malibu. Yes someone thought it would be a great idea to try to drive a car out onto the beach.
As they were were working on that I went on ahead to try to find the rest of the folks. I must say here that sand is not as forgiving as I had thought, I headed out across all the ruts to get to the proper side of the beach and as I crossed the ruts I got quite the shock. Pretty much everything in the back bounced up about 4 inches and crashed back down (that's what it sounded like anyway lol) I thought for sure I had totaled my suspension but all was fine. Lesson learned...go a bit slower over the ruts.
I must not have driven far enough, didn't see anyone lol. I ended up turning around and going back to the recovery effort of the malibu. I really just watched because there was really no way I could help.
After they got the car unstuck I followed them back out to the beach to meet back up with everyone else. I hauled out all the stuff I brought and I have to say I am glad I added the extra 4 pounds of bbq. I ended up bringing 8 pounds with only about half a pound being left at the end of the day. ... If we do it again next year Ill just bring 10-12 pounds and a crap load of buns and drinks. Oh and Ill get there on time next time LOL.
For most of the day we all just hung out ate some food and checked out eachothers XJ's It was a great day for the event, nice blue skies, warm weather but not burning up like it was a few weeks ago.
My rig made it out and back better than I expected, nothing broken as far as I know and it handeled the sand pretty well considering my small tires that happen to be in pretty bad shape. 15psi seemed to do the trick.
At the end of the day we all took a ride up the beach a bit then back down. I headed on back to the access before the rest and it was quite a while before I saw anyone else. Found out that someone ended up getting pulled by the park service....oops.
Once everyone got back to the access 2 more recoveries were done. One was a Ford Explorer and the other was an f350 super duty. Yes a Cherokee got an f350 unstuck. I think the 350's 4wd was not working. After that we all headed out to find a spot to air up. That was pretty much the end of the day lol.
Pictures will follow when I can get back on my laptop as right now I am at work and all. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of the recoveries lol.
Also anyone else who got pictures post em up and whatnot.

im waiting on the email of me pulling out that super duty. oh what a feeling and he was only in 2wd so i had to work extra hard to get him out. dug myself a hugh hole and had to unstrap and get myself out without a hitch. pulling that malibu out was by far the most fun/work to get out but got them out. now i just need to get locked to make it a little easier.

LOL. Yeah man you really dug yourself in deep with that huge ford. Every time I thought you got yourself stuck you always managed to just drive right back out. Yet another reason XJ's are awesome.
That Malibu takes the cake though. I really can't believe that guy tried to drive his car out.

Haha
There are always people from, um.. New Jersey, who try and drive their cars on the sand at Oregon Inlet. You could probably drive a car on the beach north of Corolla. Anyway, my family lives in Nags Head, so it's cool to see Oregon Inlet pics on here. Are yall all from the 757? I grew up in Richmond.
