Buying My First Cherokee
I almost have enough cash to buy a cherokee but will need some help since i live in a city with used car lots filled with granny cars and minivans. Not quite my style. I need a cherokee thats at least a '97 (mom wants airbags) runs and drives GOOD and has <250,000 (150,000ish would be awesome). It needs to be 4WD and be able to be driven away without having to stop and duct tape on the transfer case. I prefer manuals but automatic is fine. I would also love to not have to drive more than 500 miles from Seattle. Please notify if you have any extra parts laying around that i might also be interested as i plan to put on a tow hitch, 2" lift for some 30s with 15" rims and fog lights.

I found mine in Bellingham, 2000 Classic, 87K on the clock, Excellent shape already had 3.5" Rusty's lift for $4500, but it cost another 1k to ship it to Texas. So look around up north you might find a good deal too.

3 replies and not one has anything to do with the actual thread. It's not a "how much did you pay for your XJ" thread.
Aside from that, you can expand your search back to 95 since that is when airbags were first installed on the XJ Cherokee. The 96 model has the highest production numbers and is a very solid year model. Take your time and do some research on the different model years and the options available for each one. Inspect each potential purchase thoroughly to avoid getting ripped off by buying a rust bucket or one that has been severly neglected. The 4.0 motor is a dependable engine that can easily handle 300K+ miles with no problems, provided it has been cared for. A neglected vehicle, no matter what make or model will take every penny you have in maintenance and repairs. And whatever you do, don't jump on the first one you look at.
This link will help with some of the info.

I agree. Take ur time and find and buy something u want and that's going 2 fit you. Ive had 7 xjs and out of all 7, I have to say that my 96 2dr was by far my favorite. It was VERY solid and did great as dd as well as an off roader. But just take time and you'll find one.
After I totaled my 96, I looked for a month due to could not find anything I liked. Then one day driving home there my nxt one set on the side of hwy41 on my way home.
Good luck wit search and don't be hesitant to post up a potential candidate on here and ask and???s you may have about it. I know myself as well as most of the guys I know on here are more than willing 2 help outta newb.
