Think i'll just let this go and buy a new SYE and shaft for the ZJ, would save me the hassle of finding the proper input gear and swapping it in.
This is from an 88, 21 spline input. SYE and chain have ~45K miles on it, new bearings/seals throughout with less than 25 miles. Rear driveshaft was rebuilt by Tom Woods a few years and maybe 5K miles ago. Was in my XJ with 6.5" lift.
$650 local buyers only. Installation an option. Price is firm..
Located in Bristol Pa just off 95 and TP.

1991 Cherokee Laredo w np242 transfer case. Early models used the same length input shaft, which we have. I replaced the 23 spline with a 21 spline to fit the np242 on an ax5 tranny. So now I have an extra 23 spline just Laying around.

So far so good.. what's the input gear length?
I need a pre 95 23 spline with the early gearcut and an .850" input length to mate to my 98 ZJ's 42re.
Let me know if thats what you have.

I got the following info from novakconversions.com, these numbers confirm that i have the one you need.
The early NP242 uses a BD50-8 bearing, measuring 24mm wide
The later NP242 uses a 6010-N bearing, measuring 16mm wide

here's the link to where i got the info.

This page has a table which is showing that the 42re trans and (post 1990) AW4 trans used the same input gear. I think we've got a winner!! Wow, $160 bones for a new one. I'm glad I could help you out
