I'm selling my ZJ because I am moving, and honestly the cost of moving it, the hassle, etc I feel it will be easier for me if we part ways. This is by no means a beauty queen, babied, without flaws, or any of that. So lets get on with it:
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (49321)
Motor/Drive: 4.0, 4WD
Mileage: 197,000 (estimate, i think it may be under or just over that, not home to look at it)
There may be other things I am not thinking of, or have yet to discover but this is what i know of and can remember at the moment. I literally just drove this 1500 miles in mountains and everything else, and it has been my DD since i bought it in October of 2010.
The good:
- It starts, runs, and drives.
- Entire interior is herculined.
- CF stickers come pre-installed.
The bad:
- I have to add about a half a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so.
- Needs a water pump soon. There is some weeping and a very slight leak going on.
- There is something up with the brakes. The pedal is going right to the floor, and it is barely stopping at all. The front pads and rotors are new about 2,000 miles ago, and the master cylinder is new just prior to my 1500 mile trip. I suspect the booster or some lines, i'm really not sure. The brake light is on.
- The airbag light is on, always has been.
- The wiring to all four doors is cut and the front's are modified to come off. They droop and you have to lift them up to close them. I really messed up when i modified the hinges. Since the wires are cut the locks are now manual and the windows don't work. You could re-wire it all with disconnects but it's going to be a PITA if you don't know ZJ wiring. The rear doors are bolted on like factory still, but i take them off so no wire hookup there either. most of the wiring to the doors is still there.
- The door panels for my jeep were all jacked up, so they come with it but are not installed.
- The aftermarket stereo sucks bigtime, and so does the wiring.
- The wiring in this jeep is atrocious. The last owner had all kinds of wacky crap going on that i have been trying to clean up over the months. Nothing has ever left me stranded, things just stop working at random times.
- The heater / ac controls don't work. The unit appears that it needs to be replaced.
- Cosmetically the interior ir terrible. The overhead console is completely gone and the walmart light bar wiring comes in through a hole the guy before me drilled in the roof. It's a small hole i sealed with foam and planned to bondo over and never got to it.
- The fenders are cut all the way around and i jacked them up so they look like crap. A steady hand can fix the cuts easily. There is some rust on the front ones along the edge of the bad cuts. Have not noticed any on the rear.
- The headlights are held on with clear tape from a previous owner.
- The whole thing has been sanded (scuffed with a scotchbrite) and some primer had been laid down. I was going to paint it, but you know how that goes.
- The driver side wiper arm does whatever it wants. It was going slightly passed the windshield and off to the side for a while, and in a wind storm a few weeks ago it went all the way to the left and now is pushed back to the right. Stripped? No clue.
- The hood sticks up at the rear by the windshield on both sides. Have taken it off and messed with hinges, still no clue why. I gave up.
- Leather seats have some rips in them.
- Inside of the glove box it "cut up" so i could access the security brain without removing it. Security is disabled by a wire ground.
- Custom exhaust has no.....well you know. So if you have inspection where you are, that will fail.
I know there must be other stuff i can't think of. But you get the idea of where this is going. I am accepting any reasonable offer, but I have an idea of how little I can take so there is a cutoff point. If you have an offer feel free to send it my way, but please do so via PM. I will not meet up you will have to come to me, and although you could probably drive it home with the brakes being the way they are I really suggest you trailer it.
I will be back in town on Wed if anyone wants to see it, until then PM me. See my gallery for pictures, they are pretty recent.

Auto. I make it sound worse than it is. The panels for the doors CAN go on, they just arent. Most of it is easy, the brakes are the mystery.

Which auto? You may have a rare AW4 which would be a great start to a rebuild if a perspective buyer were so inclined. Espescially if someone had a rusted hulk needing a body..
Do you have a 1-2 position at the bottom of the trans bezel?

It has both 1 and 2 at bottom position, or 1 and above position is 2? If it's 1 and 2 it's the rare AW4 and makes this Jeep much more desirable for a builder. I'd love to find one locally... and i looked for some time.
Hope you didnt get the wrong impression, i was trying to help.. honestly.

I thought all 4.0L equipped '93 ZJs came equipped with the AW4 trans, and the 42RE started in '94? You have any pics you can post, is it the one in your album? How far are you from Clinton Twp./Mt Clemens 48035?

Its the one in my album but I plan to take some more today. I'm not sure how far I am (I'm trying to remember where that is) but my zip is 49321. Just keep in mind it needs to be trailered because of the brakes. If it was local it could be limped home but not beyond that.
I have debated parting it out also, but that takes a lot of time. If I had a local buyer for the engine and trans I would sell those, part till my time runs out, then scrap it.
I would like to get at least $500 out of it simply because I see parts vehicles go for at least that. If it wasn't for the gas $$ I would fix the brakes and drive it down to Missouri with me.

I'm about 4 miles from the I-696 and I-94 interchange, 3 miles from Selfridge Air National Guard base.
I've been looking for either another ZJ or an XJ since I sold my ZJ to my son. My wife won't let me make any changes to the WJ.
