Repaint ?s
I've been looking into doing a Plastidip cover up for my Jeep, because of paint issues. I want my baby to look good for years to come! Has anyone done the Plastidip kit? Or the tinted Monstaliner? Would it be better to go to a body shop to do it? I'm trying to stay on the cheaper side, but at the same time, I want it to last. Just curious so see what everyone else has done, and now it holds up over the years. I don't mind paying the extra cash if it's gonna be good.
What I would like to do is a throwback to the Willie's paint scheme, doing the army green with some white highlights, Star on the hood, serial numbers, etc.

Search YouTube for "dip your car", you will find all kinds of info and video of how it's done. You can't buy Plastidip in gallon can in California, but you can get the Eastwood brand of dip shipped to California.

I didn't know they has so many colors. I've only ever seen black, grey, yellow, and red. I honestly like working with plasti-dip, and have done quite a few grilles, wheels, etc.
I've also done a lot of rattle-can paint jobs, as well as a roll-on paint job. It's all in the prep. You could roll-on the monstaliner, or go to HD and buy a bunch of cans of spray O.D. green and go to town.
Looks like you have quite a few different routes you could take, and all of them could look really good.

Yea, I like the idea of the Dipyour car stuff, but by the time I bought one of the kits, I could have just bought that many cans and been done...but good tip on the multiple coats!
As for prep with the dip, just make sure it's clean and free of wax, I'm guessing?

Once worked across the street from a plasti dip junkie. Over 6 weeks 5 different colors. Last one was chameleon gloss blues.

I've had good spray results on my bumpers and other pieces. I'm going to give it a go with rattle canning and plastidip. Just bought a case for 55 bucks. Not bad to just try something new : )
Probably be about 80 by the time I do some colored details.
I'm going to do Monstaliner from the rocker panels down, and then color the rest. Now I just need a good solid weekend off lol.

Dipping is not as forgiving as their videos show. It is very easy to get an uneven finish. When I first stumbled onto dipping I had dreams of some amazing dipped color. I bought some black to do my flares and it turned out decent after doing it a time or two and plenty of coats. If you really intend to do this and want it to look as good as it can you will need the recommended sprayer. Make sure it is cool outside because if it is hot the stuff will dry in the air and leave little bbs on the surface. Overall Im satisfied but dreams of a cool dip ended after that.

temperature and humidity apply to any painting so it will to plastidip. If its over 85 to 90 degrees its too hot to paint and over 60% humidity the paint won't stick or take forever to dry.And on spraying technique it takes time for you to learn it so practice on something tell your good at it.A spray can is ok for small jobs or touch ups but a whole car its better to use a air sprayer.
