Well, are you either willing to leave it in 2wd forever, or do a tcase swap/repair? If so, then yes, I would say that is a good deal.

I'd try to fix the tcase problem first. See if there was a linkage problem and swap out the case if necessary. I can get a decent tcase around here for around $200.

Pick it up, offer $600 & go up to $700 if necessary. Cheap trail rig if nothing else. Even if you dump $200.00 in it any 4x4 is worth anywhere between $1,000 to $2,000 if it runs.
Turn around sell it and you've got extra cash for a better XJ or parts for another... |

Too late. He just sold it for $600. Couldn't get there fast enough.
