Do Quadra Tracs Groan?
Test drove a '99 GC Ltd with Quadra Trac today. First time in this model. Handles nicely at speed on the freeway, but noticed what I thought was tire noice (basic Toyos, nothing extreme) as we slowed from the freeway.
Next took it to a dirt lot and noticed groaning from the tranny at slow speeds doing even moderate turns, nothing tight, and seemingly inconsistent. Could this noise be what I thought was the tires? Is it serious?
The owner had this evaluated and the tranny was flushed. He says he took it to another shop and a dealer and they concurred that this isn't abnormal.
Very nice vehicle otherwise. Only 50k miles. Was used as a rental, according to CarFax, and spent time in WA and AK. We're in AZ. You guys give me the thumbs up and we're joining the ranks of the Jeep family. Thanks!

Buy it for no more than 6 grand and slap a 231 transfer case in it. Then you will get better mpg and 4wheeling manueverability. just my .02 cents worth.

you could also do a 242 swap, niether will improve gas mileage enough to be measured since teh sdrivetrain turns no matter what transfer case you have. You would have to put selectable hubs i the front to stop all the drivetrain from turning and improve your mpg.

TS is right, In my memory bank i picked out a article i had read without thinking it thru. One of the Jeep articles had done a swap with manual hubs installed, manual hubs gave better mpg's.

My Quadra-DRIVE has a little groan now and then when turning....
I think it's the Jeep telling me it hasn't seen the dirt enough lately...
